Abstract
The operation of a CsI photocathode activated with an adsorbed layer of TMAE and coupled to a low-pressure wire chamber is presented. A quantum efficiency of 15% at wavelengths less than 190 nm, with single-step amplification gains of up to 107, and a signal width of 5 ns at the base were achieved. Ageing effects due to ion bombardment of the photocathode are discussed.
