Abstract
In this paper, a device is proposed and designed to help visually impaired people to navigate safely and quickly between obstacles and other dangers faced by visually impaired pedestrians. The design and construction of the system is based on the fictitious force algorithm for obstacle evasion commonly used in mobile robots. The algorithm is implemented in a microcontroller, the system is responsible for informing a safe direction for the user using recorded messages and vibration. Tests and results are shown. The proposed approach presented satisfactory results.
