    Abstract

This study collects an experience of journalistic investigation articulated between the digital communication media GK and journalism students from the Universidad San Francisco de Quito for the media approach to illegal fishing in the Galapagos Islands. With international funding, the project awarded scholarships to 5 Ecuadorian students and 5 professionals to produce investigative reports using multimedia formats. An additional scholarship was awarded to a music student for the production of a podcast on this issue. The fellows received virtual and on-site training in Galapagos and had editorial support from September 2021 to February 2022. This article shows that there is interest in environmental journalism even though it is not profitable for the media and that it is necessary to specialize in topics environment for better coverage. All scholarship students used varied and consistent sources of information, concluded and published their reports in the Ecuadorian media. The podcast was shared with NGOs and activists from Galapagos.
