Abstract
This work offers new data about musical life at the Cathedral of Quito, specifically from the rise of the diocese in 1545 to 1836. It starts from a method based on historical musicology, adding a new perspective that shows how foreign documentation of the cathedral can be beneficial in revealing information about itself. This article also pretends to update and provide news concerning music and musicians involved in the cathedral precinct and their circulation through other Quito religious institutions beyond what was said in the pioneering research published by Robert Stevenson in 1963.
