Abstract

The socio-economic landscape of the United States is complex and ever-evolving. The U.S. population reached over 331 million with a diverse demographic composition. Sustainability is becoming an increasingly integral part of life in the United States as environmental awareness grows. In the sport industry, this is reflected in corporate sustainability initiatives, eco-friendly materials for sport apparel, and programs like Nike's Reuse-A-Shoe. Prominent organizations such as the Green Sports Alliance (GSA), Oak View Group (OVG)'s GOAL program, and the Sport Ecology Group (SEG) are leading the way in promoting sustainable practices in sports. Sustainability certifications like LEED, the Sustainable Sport Index, ISO 20121, and Zero Carbon Certification are essential tools in this effort. Implementing these initiatives presents challenges but also offers significant opportunities for cost savings, enhanced brand reputation, and regulatory compliance. Sport organizations play a pivotal role in fostering a more sustainable and equitable world.
