Abstract

The present work aims at evaluating the impact of battery ageing model accuracy on the optimal energy storage system (ESS) sizing. A hybrid ESS is optimized for a tramway application, considering two different ageing models: a Whöler curve based ageing model and a semi-empirical model. Results show significant savings of c.a. 8% over energy operating costs when the ESS sizing is performed with an accurate battery ageing model.
