Resumen
Between 1983 and 1995 nearly all breeding sites of the meadow pipit Anthus pratensis known in the early 1980s were confirmed. In the last years, a high number of new sites were found in the Prealps and the Alps; in these regions, an accumulated total of c. 250 territories was found in 123 different km2. The breeding population in the Prealps and the Alps was found to be higher than in the Jura (219 territories in 101 km2), formerly considered to be the main breeding area of the species. In the period 1972-1976 the distribution along the Prealps was considered to be very patchy; it now forms a continuous belt. It is unknown to what extent this represents an actual increase of the species. The actual size of the breeding population is estimated at well over 500 pairs.
