Resumen

The article seeks to make a critical and situated reflection on how certain Ecuadorian cultural critics approached two phenomena: the international publication of Ecuadorian women and the incorporation of gender analysis in literary studies. To do this, I focus on the discussion of the literary canon (as value, textual cast, and pedagogy) and the various ways in which a patriarchal critique was articulated through press releases, interviews, and selected opinion articles that appeared between 2018 and 2022. Through feminist criticism and gender studies, I examine the patriarchal and binary rhetorical strategies used by these critics, which were not very useful for a productive dialogue. Towards the end, the contribution that I make from an incarnated gaze is explained: loca-lization, which seeks to re-sen(t)se the national canon from a polysystemic perspective.
