New records of birds from the inter-Andean valley of Quito, Ecuador

We present occurrence records of 93 bird species from the inter-Andean valley of Quito, Ecuador: the first vouchered country record of Indigo Bunting Passerina cyanea (Linnaeus, 1766); first records for 37 species in the Andes of Ecuador or within the inter-Andean valley; supplementary records of 45 species with scattered records; modern records for seven species; and reports of three non-native species. Several observations originate from novel urban habitats, underscoring the conservation potential of green infrastructure. The study highlights the pivotal role of participatory science in advancing our understanding of bird distribution.
